    Delhi Introduction


    The Political nerve center of worlds largest democracy India, Delhi is a tourist’s delight, a city that is as old as civilization itself. It is a palimpsest, bearing the complexities, the contradictions, the beauty and the dynamism of a city where the past coexists with the present. Once known as Indraprastha, Delhi is situated in latitude 28.36 North and 77.33 East on the bank of the river Yamuna and has ridges to protect either sides. There have been 8 cities around the Delhi of today. Many dynasties ruled from here. Thus it holds an unrivalled strategic location in the country, all the rulers preferred it to be the capital and so also the British in 1911AD decided to make delhi the capital instead of Calcutta, which was formerly the capital. As India’s National Capital, Delhi represents the Indian microcosm. Delhi is one of the most historic capitals in the World and two of its monuments the Qutub Minar and Humayun’s Tomb have been declared world Heritage Sites.


    At an altitude of 239 meters above sea level Delhi is the most important railway center, being the headquarter of the Northern Zone of Indian Railway and is excellently served by all other zones. City enjoys the benefit of domestic and International Airports (Indira Gandhi International Airport), which connect it with all-important centers of the world as well as of India. Delhi enjoys pleasantly, unpleasantly hot, cold and rainy seasons: Winter-late November to end of February at this time it is the bitterly cold and temperature goes down to 4o Celsius and woolen clothes are necessary. Now the city adorms a unique charm of this season and it is the best tie mot visit in Delhi. March to April middle is springtime here, after it comes Summer from April end to June in summer it is very hot, as hot winds and dust storms make the mercury shoot up, at this temperature rises up to 46o Celsius. Monsoons come here in July and August and then come autumn in September to November and then its winter ones again.

    The historical monuments, exuberant festivals and spacious avenues make Delhi a memorable experience. It is rich in the architecture of its monuments.
